The CEO of GIC-Bhutan Re, Mr. Kesang Wangdi, led a courtesy visit to Her Excellency Maleka Parveen, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan, to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the insurance and reinsurance sectors in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing economic ties between Bhutan and Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of enhancing trade, connectivity, and private sector engagement to support regional integration.
Discussions also touched on potential opportunities for GIC-Bhutan Re to explore Bangladesh’s expanding insurance market, including underwriting and reinsurance partnerships. The Ambassador welcomed the interest and noted the role of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) in regulating the sector.
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Thimphu reiterated its support in facilitating dialogue and providing guidance on regulatory procedures, including compliance requirements, capital standards, and partnership structures for market entry.
The Ambassador further proposed the idea of organizing a business fair to bring together partners across sectors and promote collaboration.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing commitment to continued engagement and exploring avenues for cooperation in financial services, contributing to broader regional economic integration.
