The Chief Executive Officer of GIC-Bhutan Reinsurance Co. Ltd. (GIC Bhutan Re), Kesang Wangdi initiated a key meeting with His Excellency Younten Phuntsho, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, attended by the Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Reinsurance Department of GICB.
The CEO proposed a technical partnership with the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd. (AICIL) to establish a dedicated forum for enhancing Bhutan’s existing agriculture insurance frameworks.
His Excellency welcomed the initiative as a vital knowledge-sharing platform for agriculture risk transfer mechanisms, particularly in light of escalating climate challenges, including erratic rainfall patterns, unseasonal precipitation, flash floods, and other adverse weather phenomena.
The CEO underscored synergies between GIC Bhutan Re, the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan (RICB), and Bhutan Insurance Ltd. (BIL) in advancing government priorities within the agriculture sector.
His Excellency affirmed plans to incorporate the proposed ideas and solutions into the implementation strategy for the Ministry’s 13th Five-Year Plan.
This engagement reinforces GIC-Bhutan Re’s dedication to fostering resilience in Bhutan’s agricultural landscape.
